Wisdom From Sadhguru

Jagadish Vasudev, venerated as Sadhguru, Indian Yogi and founder of Isha Yoga Centre, Tamil, India, at the United Nations for world peace.

“People care for their own little pleasure more than for everyone’s wellbeing. That is what we have to change in the world. What does an unlimited amount of wealth mean to a man who has a limited amount of time. #HealingTrauma

The fight against corruption has to start within you, as integrity is an inner quality. Integrity is not a bunch of values or ethics. Integrity is the coherence between how you are, how you think, and how you act.

There is no substitute for a conscious, responsible behavior. If you learn to use the tools of body, mind, emotions, and energy by choice, you will naturally become a very impactful human being.

For me, life is not about what you do. It is all about how you do it. If you learn to laugh at your own stupidity, all your rubbish will turn into manure very fast. And manure is good for growth. Ultimately, life is neither suffering nor bliss. It is what you make it.

If you look at your thoughts in the context of the whole cosmos, they do not mean anything. If you realize that, you will naturally create a distance from your thought process. The mind is an endless game. You should not play it all the time.

If you break the shell of your personality, you will simply be presence – as life is, just a Presence. Once you free yourself from the meanness of the mind, an indiscriminate sense of love and inclusion arises.

“This intelligence. This is the greatest thing. This cerebral capability that the human being has is the greatest thing that’s happened to us. It took millions of years of evolution to get to this place but now this is a curse. What are you suffering?

You are suffering your own intelligence. Please know this. Yes or no. If I take away half of your brain most of you will be peaceful. Yes. Harmonious. In harmony with everything. So I am saying is the best thing that you got, you made the worst out of it, because no users manual.

Because your education systems or family systems or the national cultures have no sense about how to manage this one. We are always thinking how to conquer the world. There are two ways you can take the world. You can either conquer the world or you can captivate the world.

If you captivate the world, the world will come with you. If you conquer the world you have to sit on top of it and struggle for the rest of your life.” – Sadhguru

This quote beautifully captures Dr Kristen Neff’s research. Trauma informed tool: #4 Why I Switched From Self-Esteem to Self-Compassion.

The joy of being one with everything will never be known to a person who is clinging to something or the other. If you are a sensible human being, you will naturally be loving and inclusive. Happiness starts with you – not with your relationships, job, or money.

Stress is not a consequence of a particular situation – it is a consequence of your inability to manage your own system. Whether it is happiness or unhappiness, pain or pleasure, agony or ecstasy, essentially it happens from within.

“Meditation is not an act – it is a quality.” – Sadhguru

Especially if unpleasant things have happened in your life, you should become wise, not wounded. A truly intelligent mind is neither influenced by memory nor deluded by imagination.

Fear and anxiety are consequence of your imagination running wild. You are suffering a situation that may never happen. The more security you seek, the more disturbed you will be about every change that happens in your life.

The fundamental nature of jealousy and envy is a feeling of inadequacy. If you were really blissful, you would not be envious of anyone. A seed that does not sprout is as good as a pebble. For the seed that you are to flourish, you have to open up.

“You cannot exist without the universe. You are not a separate existence.” – Sadhguru

If someone else thinks you are smart, it is okay. It is their opinion. If you think you are smart, it means you are stupid. Confidence is no substitute for clarity. To be successful, you need clarity, not confidence. Doubt is good – it means you are searching for truth. Suspicion is sickness.

If you want to have deep insights into life, other people’s opinion of you should not mean anything to you. Having expectations of others means you are trying to fix their lives. Fix your own life – that is freedom. Staying young means being willing to learn, evolve, and be open to life.

Youth and Truth: Unplug with Sadhguru:

“Only when you are absolutely devoted to what you do, you can produce something significant in the world.” – Sadhguru

People are dedicated to their lifestyle, not to their life. Once you are dedicated to your lifestyle, you get enslaved to how much you earn. Time is not money. Time is Life. Life is not in our activity, not in our possessions, and not in what we touch, taste, see, or smell.

Life is not a drama that is happening around you. Life is that fundamental dimension that is You. You are Life – the rest are just ingredients. Discipline does not mean control. It means having the sense to do exactly what is needed.

The more you try to be special, the more you get hurt. Just be, melt and become part of the wind and the earth; become part of everything, as creation intends. For someone who listens to the wholeness of existence, everything is music.

If you look at life just the way it is, you shall be overwhelmed by its sheer magnitude. The very core of the cosmos is stillness and peacefulness. If you are touched by it, everything about you will be transformed. It is all right if the world thinks you are weird.

“This is Not an Agitation – Do Not Get Agitated. This is Not a Protest – Do Not dislocate other’ lives. This is an Expression of Love and Responsibility for the Life that we are and the Life that should be beyond us. #SaveSoil. Let Us Make It Happen! -Sg”

Everyone is different, so everyone is weird in someone’s eyes. Happily weird or miserably weird – your choice. If you are looking at life as a possibility, you will see possibilities everywhere. If you are looking at life as a problem, you will see problems everywhere.

As far as the laws of existence are concerned, there is no good and bad, no crime and punishment. It is just that for every action, there is a consequence. Whatever you do, just check – is it all about you, or is it for the wellbeing of All.

How profound is your experience of life, and how impactful are you in what you do? This is all that really matters in life. Mother Earth is so generous. If only we give her the chance, she will restore everything in absolute abundance and beauty.

If you spend time in the forest, you will realize that you are just one more life. It is a huge spiritual step to feel for life around you the way you feel about yourself. If you bring perfect order into everything, it will make life very easy, but the spark in life will be gone.

Dreams are like footprints. By analyzing the footprint, you may know a few things, but it does not reveal the nature of life. May your dreams not come true, because they are based on what you know. You should explore possibilities that have never been touched or reached before.

If you drop this calculation, ‘What can I get?’ in your life, you will become boundless and absolutely compassionate. We must stop influencing our children and start supporting them by creating a loving, joyful, and intelligent atmosphere.

One of the schools in India Sadhguru developed to foster intelligence, peace and joyfulness.

“It is time we choose quality over quantity in our lives, in every sense. Only then we can save the planet.” – Sadhguru

When there is so much wealth in the world, poverty is a crime against humanity. It is the limited identities of race, religion, and nationality which breed conflict and violence. Society should not shape individual human consciousness. Human consciousness should shape society.

We have to become sensitive to life – not to our thoughts, emotions, egos, ideologies, or belief systems. Because life is the highest value. Wherever you are, whatever you are exposed to, pick up the best from every situation. Let not life’s experience go waste.

“Turning inward naturally brings the realization that our existence and the outside world are not different.” – Sadhguru

The most important thing today is to make human beings rise to a sense of inclusiveness beyond gender, race, religion, and nationhood. If human beings become conscious, the need for domination and conflict will dissolve.

As human beings become more empowered, there is a fundamental need for us to become more conscious and responsible, rather than reactive and compulsive. If you are looking for solace, belief systems are fine. But if you are looking for a solution, you have to seek.

Meditation means to know and experience life beyond the physical sphere; not on the surface but at the source. When you experience everything as a part of yourself, you are in Yoga. That is liberation, that is mukti, that is ultimate freedom.

“Do not look up to anything, nor look down on anything. Then you will see creation just the way it is.” – Sadhguru

If every day of your life, no matter what the nature of your work or the situation, you can remain playful and exuberant, it is a sign of Freedom within. If there is love in your heart, it will guide you through your life. Love has its own intelligence.

Your life is a limited amount of time. Only miserable people think it is long. If you are joyful and well, even if you live for a hundred years, it is too little. To forgive does not mean to forget. To forgive means not to carry any bitterness in you, because that destroys your life.

The best gift you can give anyone is to offer them the tools to engineer themselves into joyful human beings. It is the ability to bring out the best in others that makes you a leader. Do not worry about your future. Do your present well, and the future will blossom.

Neuroscientists listening and learning from Jagadish Vasudev, venerated as Sadhguru, about intelligence, peace and joyfulness.

“Every particle in your body is communicating with the entire cosmos. Yoga is about experiencing that.” – Sadhguru

Everyone deserves a pleasant experience of life. If we want to establish human rights across the planet, we need to start thinking beyond national boundaries. Everyone should have the same rights and face the same justice system.

Mysticism is not about performing miracles. Mysticism is a profound exploration of the Miracle of life, which is not perceivable by the five senses. Playfulness is the nature of creation and the Creator. If you are in tune with them, you are naturally playful.

“It takes all kinds of people to make the world beautiful. You can do it too.” – Sadhguru

Life is not about peace, but if you do not know peace, you will never know life. This year, may all of us have the Courage, Commitment, and the Consciousness to make better Humans of ourselves, and, in turn, a better world.”

The Hollies – He Ain’t Heavy… He’s My Brother (1969):

“… The road is long
With many a winding turn
That leads us to who knows where
Who knows where
But I’m strong
Strong enough to carry him
He ain’t heavy, he’s my brother
… So on we go
His welfare is of my concern
No burden is he to bear
We’ll get there
… For I know
He would not encumber me
He ain’t heavy, he’s my brother
… If I’m laden at all
I’m laden with sadness
That everyone’s heart
Isn’t filled with the gladness
Of love for one another
… It’s a long, long road
From which there is no return
While we’re on the way to there
Why not share
… And the load
Doesn’t weigh me down at all
He ain’t heavy he’s my brother
… He’s my brother
He ain’t heavy, he’s my brother, he ain’t heavy.”

Trauma Informed World was inspired by Kopika and Tharnicaa; two faces that remind us everyday of Australia’s cruel refugee system. One of many systems in Australia that remind us of the negative operation of power. #HomeToBilo

Kopika (left) and Tharnicaa (right) were kept at Christmas Island Detention Centre for nearly two years despite trauma informed calls to return them to Biloela, Queensland. Tharnicaa has spent most of her life detained by the Australian Government and is still in community detention to this day. #YouBelong

***Since the creation of this website the Biloela family were released from detention, returned to Biloela and granted permanent protection in Australia. However, hundreds more people still remain stuck in a system that requires urgent reform.***

You can listen my talk with Dr Cathy Kezelman AM, President of Blue Knot Foundation on my own healing journey, training and study and how it has informed my work and advocacy for a trauma informed world here:

Trauma Informed World acknowledges and respects Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as the Traditional Custodians of the land and waterways on which this educational resource was inspired. I acknowledge and respect Elders past, present and emerging. I honour the continuation of educational, cultural and spiritual practices and celebrate the extraordinary diversity of people and relationships worldwide. This website contains images of deceased persons. There are also swear words in some of the songs presented that portray intense emotions. This website is not intended to trigger people who have experienced trauma. However, if you do find any of the content triggering, each page has a link to Australia’s National Helplines and Websites for immediate mental health support. These are my own personal views and comments and may not reflect the views of my employer.

This is a free educational website on Trauma Informed Care for survival and wellbeing. While each injustice differs, all stories share the same trauma: the negative operation of power. Let’s break the cycle of injustice and trauma together one day at a time. The byproduct of clarity is peace. Joy is peace dancing. Trauma is disconnection. Empathy fuels connection.
